So many writing tips, so little space

Writing tips are all over the Internet and for those suffering from writer's block, they can be very helpful. Unfortunately, they do not group themselves in a neat little bundle. It became necessary to find a place to store all this information in a format that was easy to use. This lens houses all my favorite prompts, tips and creative writing exercises. The lens will be updated as more tools are discovered.

Writing prompts, writing tips and creative writing exercises can be be helpful to authors who need a push but this lens comes with a warning. These prompts, tips and writing exercises can be fun to play with and may interfere with serious writing.

Writing Prompts - Clever creative ways to get your mind working

These are exercises to get the creative mind working. Some are silly and just plain fun. Others are more in depth and require some thought. Nevertheless, for someone looking at a blank page, at least it gives you something to write.

Word Help - Let's face it, sometimes we all need a little help

Lists of useful words in different situations. From a list of words to use in place of "Said" to a list of descriptive words.

A Must Have for any writer

This has been called the "Bible" for writers.

2015 Writer's Market: The Most Trusted Guide to Getting Published (Market, 2015)
2015 Writer's Market: The Most Trusted Guide to Getting Published (Market, 2015)
Everything you need to know about being published is in this book. There are guidelines for submissions. It is updated yearly and now covers on-line writing as well. Although it changes every year, many of the resources remain the same. And it is full of helpful articles that make the writing process easier.

Writing Rules - Not all rules are created equal, some are just for fun

We start this off with a list of rules by Mark Twain from his scathing essay on the Literary Offenses of James Fenimore Cooper. The first one on the list is "A tale shall accomplish something and arrive somewhere".

There are many other rules and while they may not apply to all situations, sometimes knowing the "rules" can help. If nothing else, they are a guide to better writing.

Character development

While some writers do not believe in using a list to develop characters, some of us who have trouble remembering small details could use a list to maintain details and keep our facts straight. These lists are comprehensive and easy to manage.

There is free information on the Internet but there are some helpful books too. - Let's face it, there is never enough information

These are two books I cannot live without. Both of them are specific to unique challenges.

Tell It Slant: Writing and Shaping Creative Nonfiction
Tell It Slant: Writing and Shaping Creative Nonfiction
Creative non-fiction or historical fiction - what is the difference? When I tried to tell my great grandmother's story, it was no longer creative non-fiction. I didn't have enough facts so now it's historical fiction. Everything I needed to know is in this book.

The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles
The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles
Sometimes writers block is resistance. This book explains what is stopping you from writing. The book is Interesting and I found myself nodding my head "yes" to many of the reasons I had for not writing.
